Winterize Your Home
Posted on 10/03/2022
Winterize Your Home We are all looking forward to Fall, with comfortable temperatures and beautiful colors arriving. But as we enjoy the turn from summer, don’t be caught off guard when winter arrives soon after! Begin preparing your home for freezing weather now! Winter can cause many unexpected damages. A pipe could freeze and burst, or a tree limb next to your home or vehicle could break under the weight of snow and cause significant damage. Your home could be poorly insulated allowing cold air in and letting hot air escape causing your utility bill to rise. Any of these events could spontaneously occur during the winter months, but there are a few precautions you can take to lower the chances of the winter freeze causing damage to your home or an unwelcome hit to your bank account.

To protect your home from winter damage, take some time to inspect it now and conduct some minor fixes as needed. There are a few easy checks that go a long way; Check your pipes, gutters, hose, and yard. Your pipes are susceptible to freezing when temperatures drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Counter the freezing pipes by insulating them as well as leaving cabinet doors open in order to allow warm air to surround plumbing pipes under sinks. Be sure to clear your gutters of dead leaves and other debris. Your gutters direct rainwater and snow away from your roof to prevent water from seeping in and causing damage. Make sure to remove any garden hoses attached to your home and insulate the faucet. Double check trees in your yard and cut them back if needed.  Safeguard your home this fall and ease your worry this winter!
