Engineered drawingsEngineering is responsible for the review and approval of a variety of engineering submitting and the inspection/acceptance of public streets sidewalks  and drainage facilities constructed by land developers.

Engineers are also involved in the conceptual designs of internal projects for Utilities, Parks and the Public Works departments as well as the Fountain Urban Renewal Authority.

Engineers ensure compliance with Engineering design criteria and standards to provide safe grading and infrastructure construction for the citizens of Fountain.

Construction Work in City Right-of-Way

CONSTRUCTION PERMIT REQUIREMENTS


INTRODUCTION:

The City of Fountain requires all excavators, concrete contractors and utilities to obtain a construction permit for work in a public right-of-way for each individual address or location.

 REQUIREMENTS:
All contractors will be required to submit the following: 

  • General Liability Insurance. City of Fountain as certificate holder
  • $5,000.00 Surety Bond payable to the City of Fountain
  • Payment of associated fees
  • Current City of Fountain Business License 


The following criteria must be met for approval of each construction permit:
 

  • Applicant must ensure all line locates are done prior to excavation
  • Applicant is responsible for post clean up of excavation area
  • Applicant must submit a traffic control plan when required by the City
  • Applicant must submit a compaction test prior to paving
  • Construction plans and details may be required by the City  
  • Applicant must notify the City no less than 24 hours prior to any inspection 


All construction permits expire 60 days from date of approval unless further authorization is obtained from the Engineering office. 

A minimum of 5 days and maximum of 30 days will be required for approval of excavation permits. Most concrete permits will be approved the same day application is made. 

You must obtain a construction permit prior to any concrete or excavation work. An additional fee will apply if work is commenced prior to approval of the permit.

Building Permits and Certificates of Occupancy

The Engineer Division review construction plans to ensure conformance with the City of Fountain's Storm Drainage, Flood Prevention, and Water Quality and Sediment Transport Control Standards.  A final inspection is required in order to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy.
