Illinois/Indiana Crossings – On 11/14/2023, City Council approved Resolution Nos. 23-053 and 23-054, awarding the Indiana Avenue Construction Contract to Native Sun Construction and the Project Management Contract for this improvement to Wilson and Company. These contracts will provide the new road construction and project management of Indiana Avenue (US Highway 85/87 to Old Puelo Road) within the City of Fountain and other matters in connection therewith. The construction of Indiana Avenue and the closure of Illinois Avenue is required by BNSF Railroad to comply with quite zone requirements that the voters approved in 2009. Improvements began after the 2023 Thanksgiving holiday. Plans for this project have been reviewed and approved by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration because most of the funding for this project is from federal grants awarded to the City of Fountain. At the conclusion of this improvement there will be a three-way lighted intersection at US Highway 85/87 (a CDOT roadway) and Indiana Avenue. This will be the best designed arterial roadway to allow residents on the southern portion of our community in and out of this area, in addition to reducing traffic near Aragon Elementary School.

UPDATE: Storm inlets installed, curb and gutter installed east of the railroad tracks.
