Close proximity to the Rocky Mountains, a low unemployment rate, a housing market that's relatively affordable (at least compared to major coastal cities) are all factors that make Colorado an attractive place to raise a family.

Heck, its capital city may even soon be the home of Seattle-based retail giant Amazon.com Inc.'s next headquarters, creating even more job opportunities.

And of all the cities and communities in the Centennial State, it's Golden that stands out as the No. 1 place to raise a family, according to a new report from SmartAsset.

SmartAsset, a New York-based financial services and analytical firm, ranked 41 different Colorado cities based on metrics in 10 categories:

  • Percent of families under the poverty line.
  • High school graduation rate.
  • Percent of residents under the age of 20.
  • Median housing cost and 5-year percent change in median home values.
  • Median household income.
  • Property and violent crime rates.
  • Unemployment rate.
  • Child care costs.

Fountain ranked number 18 (tie with Boulder, CO.) Annual child care costs: $9,389.  Median monthly housing costs $1270.  Family poverty rate 7.5%.  Crime Rate (property/violent per 100,000 Residents) 3,261.  Graduation rate 76.6%.
