KEY BOXES

506.1 WHERE REQUIRED

In existing buildings where access to or within a structure or an area is restricted because of secured apenings or where immediate access is necessary for life-saving or fire-fighting purposes, or where a monitored fire alarm system, fire sprinkler system, any other fire suppression systems or elevators exist in the buildings, a Knox Box listed in accordance with UL 1037 shall be installed in an approved location, unless otherwise authorized by the fire code official. Knox Boxes shall be installed on all new businesses and in existing buildings as required by the fire code official. Knox Boxes shall be installed on all new commercial buildings built in the jurisdiction. The key box shall be of an approved type listed in accordance with UL 1037, and shall contain keys to gain necessary access as required by the fire code official.

506.2 KEY BOX MAINTENANCE

The operator of the building shall immediately notify the fire code official and provide the new key where a lock is changed or rekeyed. The key to such lock shall be secured in the key box

5. Electric gates shall be equipped with a means of opening the gate by fire department personnel for emergency access. Emergency opening devices shall be approved by the fire code official. 
   All electric gates within the City of Fountain shall have the Knox Box emergency lock installed.
