Power Outage Follow Up Report:

8/3/17:

At 5:27 pm an underground fault occurred that affected 170 customers in the areas north of Athletic Avenue, along Metropolitan Avenue to Kipling Street.

At 6:28 pm 100 customers had power restored.

At 7:07 pm the remaining 70 customers were restored.

As always, we appreciated your patience while restoration operation took place and apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you.

During outages related to inclement weather events here are a several tips that will help keep you safe:

  • Stay away from any downed line - call into our customer service line as soon as possible to report the location of the line at 322-2010.
  • If a line comes down on your vehicle - remain calm and inside of your vehicle.  Limit your movements and wait for electric crews to arrive to exit the vehicle safely.
  • Only use flashlights for emergency lighting, candles can cause fires.

  • Put on layers of warm clothing if it is cold outside. Never burn charcoal for heating or cooking indoors.  Never use your oven as a source of heat.
  • Turn off or disconnect appliances and other equipment in case of a momentary power “surge” that can damage computers and other devices. Consider adding surge protectors.
  • Only use generators away from your home and never run a generator inside a home or garage, or connect it to hour home's electrical system.

The City of Fountain Electric Department strives to provide the best service available to our customers and is pleased to continue to provide our customers with the latest upgrade technologies available.

 
The City of Fountain Electric Department understands how inconvenient an outage can be and makes every effort to keep outages to a minimum. However, unforeseen circumstances do arise occasionally that cause an interruption in service.
 
These are often caused by weather conditions, tree limbs, incidents involving local wildlife with powerlines or transformers and in rare cases, an equipment issue at one of our substations. Blockbuster Outage
 
If there is a need for a planned outage, i.e. if a load needs to be transferred for balance or service line upgrades are necessary, the City of Fountain Electric Department notifies the public through the local news paper, local TV/radio stations and posts the affected area on the web-site as soon as possible.
 
By taking these steps we make it possible for our customers to make any needed adjustments to suit their lifestyle, such as checking the back up battery in an alarm clock, shutting down a computer, changing the battery in a sprinkler clock, or planning to use the red safety cord to manually open an automatic garage door opener, prior to the scheduled outage.
 
If you experience an outage please contact our Customer Service Department at 322-2010. In the event an outage occurs after business hours our call center will notify the Electric Standby Personnel.
 
Heavy Snow on Limbs by Power Lines Please allow the Electric Department 2 hours before contacting us a second time as an Electric Crew will already be on site and making the necessary repairs to the power line. A follow-up phone call is appreciated if you continue to experience any problems once service is restored, or to confirm that your service has been restored and in good working order as this helps us to better serve our customers.
